LP's and SP's
LP: Long Play abbreviation of English (known in the industry as, Twelve inches --- or, "12 inch" (in Portuguese)). Disk with 31 cm diameter which was touched to 33 1/3 revolutions per minute. The normal capacity was about 20 minutes per side. The LP format was used, usually for marketing albums. Note the difference between the first generations of LP were recorded at 78 RPM (revolutions per minute).
SP: Single or compact simple abbreviation of the English Single Play (aka, seven inches --- or, "7 inches" (in Portuguese)), or as a simple compact. Disc 17 cm in diameter, usually played at 45 RPM (in Brazil, 33 1/3 rpm). Its normal capacity was about 4 minutes per side. The single was generally employed for dissemination of songs working a full album to be released later.
